Do the dogs usually come as a single or in pairs? What is the price range? Are they signed? Thank you.
Hello, Thanks for your email, while this model is normally referred to in the singular, this particular model of dog is often seen in pairs. Simply for the sake of symmetry as there was only one dog of Alcibiades. These dogs carved in marble or Serpentine are often seen in pairs, and as with anything vary in scale, condition and quality. I’ve seen tiny ones for a few hundred pounds and larger models for many thousands. How long is a piece of string?? It all depends on a number variables. If it is of interest, I do know of a larger single dog in the same serpentine green stone that is priced at £1200. It is here in London if it is of interest. re the Coalbrookdale plate, were there any cast in the 20th Century. My father was entertained as a guest at the works in the seventies and was given a plate looks exactly same as this. Has COALBROOKDALE in caps on the bottom. Mother always told me it was valuable. Is it just a repro?
