How many times have you heard someone say that? I hear it all the time and to be honest, it makes my blood boil! Maybe I am misunderstanding people, but as far as I am concerned dealing in antiques is not about dealing in old things. Anything can be old, it just has to wait long enough but it doesn’t mean that it was worth waiting for once it comes of age.
Good design is the main concern. Well proportioned quality pieces selected from the past 500 years, can be used and enjoyed in the modern context. There are many antiques that I too do not like, but I do not have a closed book approach that limits me to only modern furniture. The common factor that binds my collection and I recommend binds yours is quality, proportion, design and rarity.
It doesn’t matter from which periods your collection is made upon so long as it bound by these qualities. Thus to anyone that doesn’t like antiques, – open your eyes and before you just write off the past centuries, take a moment to consider what good design is and how you could use it to enhance you’re home.
